    2009 Volleyball News

Thank you again to all that celebrated the end of the season at the banquet at Legends Golf Club. There was a great turn-out! Congratulations to all teams for successful seasons. For those who want to purchase a copy of the DVD Highlight video, the cost is $10.00 and that will be mailed directly to your house. Contact Kevin Blendermann at kblendermann@aol.com or on his website www.itsamovie.com.

Congratulations to the following awards recipients!

    • Most Valulable Senior: Jen Kalbfell
Jen leaves Lakeville South as one of the most decorated players in LSHS History. Jen was a 4 year starter earning 4 varisty letters. She holds three school records with Career Kills, Career Blocks, and Single Season blocks. Jen was named to the All-Conference HM team and will play basketball next year at Wayne State. We will miss Jeniqua on the court!
    • Most Valuable Player: McKell Anderson
McKell was an all-around solid player and still has two more years at South! She was a team leader in kills, services aces, blocks, digs, and attack percentage. There were many matches that she carried our team and added fire on the court.
    • Rookie of the Year: Sam Myland
Sam did an outstanding job as a defensive specialist in her first full year of Varisty. Sam was a constant in the backrow in both serve receive and defense. She was always "in-charge" of the backrow with her loud voice and constant communication.
    • Team Spirit Award: Paige Roggenbuck
Paige is the type of player that brought unbelievable amounts of enthusiasm everyday to practice and to games. Through every situation Paige was always on the ball. As a senior, she couldn't have been more of a great example by her leadership with the underclassman.
    • All-Conference: Ellen Krueger
All-Conference Honorable Mention: McKell Anderson, Jen Kalbfell, Kelly Davenport & Monica Turner
    • School Records Broken
      Career Kills: Jen Kalbfell
      Career Blocks: Jen Kalbfell
      Single-Season Blocks: Jen Kalbfell
    • 2010 Captains
Kelly Davenport, McKell Anderson, and Monica Turner

    Alumni/Cougar Game

The returning Cougars barely beat the alumni 2-1. Alumni returners included Jill Osborne* (St. Thomas), Katie Ellis* (St. Kate's), Josi Holter* (UW River Falls), Ali Harris (UW Eau Claire), Claire Wardrop (Wisconsin), Grace Sanders* (Augustana), Lindsay Anderson (Augsburg), and Blair Butler* (Luther). Those with stars* are currently playing volleyball in college. It was a great success with former alumni and current B-squad coach Nate Erdal coaching the alumni squad. Thank you to all parents, campers, coaches, and players for attending!

    Volleyball Coaches

Jen Nelson is returning for the 4th year as the Head coach for Lakeville South. Under her direction, South has evolved into one of the stronger teams in the conference. Improving each year, they look to capitalize on the leadership of the senior captains to win matches. Prior to coaching at South, Jen was a graduate of Lakeville High School in 1999 and went to be an All-American setter at Minnesota State University, Mankato. In the off-season Jen has coached teams at Northern Lights and is currently the program's Setter coach. Jen works as an 8th grade World Studies teacher at Kenwood Trail Middle School.

Jeff Hoeg has been coaching for the past 20 years in colleges, junior clubs, and high schools. Jeff has coached numerous athletes that have gone on to play at the college level or become coaches themselves (including Jen and Crystal!). Jeff serves as a huge asset to Lakeville South volleyball with his extensive background and his expertise in passing and defensive systems. Before coming to South, Jeff was the 18's coach at Northern Lights and a former Varsity Head Coach at Prior Lake High School.

Junior Varsity coach is Crystal Dohman: Coach Dohman has several years of volleyball coaching experience, including coaching for the New Prague JO team, the junior varsity team in Eden Prairie and as the 13-1's Northern Lights JO coach. Although she couldn't play volleyball in college due to injuries, Coach Dohman was an outside hitter at New Prague High School and for Northern Lights teams. When asked what has been her favorite volleyball memory, she says that "every game and every match has a new memorable moment in it...that is what makes it so exciting."
